Project Sierra

Summary

The Sierra BioFuels Plant is the world’s first garbage to jet fuel plant. Located in Storey County, Nevada, Sierra is expected to process approximately 175,000 tons of MSW feedstock annually, creating 11 million gallons per year of renewable synthetic crude oil, or “syncrude,” that will be processed by Marathon Petroleum into transportation fuel.

Mitternight partnered with ThermoChem Recovery International, Inc. (TRI) and Fulcrum to fabricate a fully integrated MSW to FT liquids process unit utilizing a full-scale tubular FT reactor which was installed at the Sierra BioFuels plant.
